Happy Groundhog Day!

What a day for Pittsburgh!

It is not just the home to the Super Bowl champions the Steelers

and the location of the

where Ethan goes to college, but it is also the closest major city to Punxsutawney, the home of Groundhog Phil, who is the designated rodent for predicting the weather via shadow.

First D.J.: But you know, there's a reason why today is especially exciting.

Second D.J.: Especially cold!

First D.J.: Especially cold, okay, but the big question on everybody's lips...

Second D.J.: - On their chapped lips...

First D.J.: - On their chapped lips, right. Do ya think Phil is gonna come out and see his shadow?

Second D.J.: Punxsutawney Phil!

First D.J.: That's right, woodchuck-chuckers - it's

First D.J.: GROUNDHOG DAY!

Second D.J.: GROUNDHOG DAY!

Now for those who have been stuck in a burrow waiting for winter to end...Bad news. Phil saw his shadow today. That means 6 more weeks of winter. But to quote a reporter from Calgary, Canada:

"And the idea of six more weeks of winter as a worst-case scenario? You know very well that come Victoria Day* we will probably still have excellent tobogganing to look forward to, and that's still more than 15 frozen weeks in the future. "-- from Kevin Brooker, Calgary Herald

*celebrated on the last Monday before or on May 24th

I wonder who would heed anything Pardon Me Pete, Tampa's giant squirrel, would predict. Do they even have winter in Florida?

More Groundhog Day tidbits...

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

This guy is a member of the marmot family. And besides being called a groundhog and a wood chuck it is also known as a Whistling Pig. A individual groundhog, nearly-motionless and alert to danger, will whistle when alarmed to warn other groundhogs.

Happy Whistling Pig Day!

A groundhog's favorite meal is clover. This picture makes him look so cute!

Byeeeee. See you next year! Or maybe tomorrow if tomorrow ever comes...
“What if there is no tomorrow? There wasn’t one today.” -Phil Connors

That was a cool Ground Hog thing going. I do want to make that trip with my boys someday.

I almost used that quote at the end as the title of my last post. It was one or the other! Thanks for the card, I did get it and we will use it!
