New Posts coming up!!!

It is about time for some new posts.  It has been so long this program has changed and now I must relearn it.  Well I am not sure it has changed as much as I have just forgotten how to use it!

I think the 100th anniversary of the Penryn Fire Dept. might be an interesting way to get back to the blog.  Saturday I hope to be in Penryn for the town tours.

This is a  picture of The Penryn Cemetary.  "People are dying to get in there."*
The house to the right in the background was where my dad, a senior former volunteer fireman, lived when he was growing up.  It was a bakery before his father bought it.

* I must give credit to the Kensinger family for this little joke. Jed and Seth claimed their grandfather would say it everytime they went past a cemetary. It sounds so Kensinger-ish.

This is not actually in Penryn but close enough to Penryn Road.  Who is that Milkmaid?

Will and Brittany...Mr. and Mrs. Roney!

George Miller, Jessica, William, Brittany, Kimberly, and Nathanael Roney.

October 24, 2010

*I must admit to most of you who are reading this blog that some, maybe most, of these pictures have been seen before and you may have actually taken them, but I wanted to do this anyway. Just call me a thief.*
This is the Tea Room, the location of the Wedding of the younger Roney lad, Will and his lovely bride, Brittany. (taken by me last summer)

Claudette, the officiant, and Will waiting for the Bride on the balcony of the Tea Room in the High Knob area of Gambrill State Park in the Catoctin Mountains in Maryland.

"Constructed of native stone, built by the CCC in the 1930’s, the building accommodates 75 people and has a kitchen. Visitors enjoy a stone balcony facing beautiful vistas, while a huge stone fireplace (to be seen later) dominates the interior."

And here is a beautiful vista...

One of the toasts to the newlyweds with friends and a brother and a sunset in the background.

Brittany's father and Will's brother also toastmeisters!

Brittany's Mom and my Mom, Will's grandmother dancing

Will, Brittany and Dad, Will's grandfather

Sisters: Glenda, Jessica, Karen, Chanda

We were framed!!!!!

Mother and child--Jessica and her baby boy

Elliott, cousin of the groom, and Will's step-nephew toasting marshmallows in the dominating fireplace in the interior.

Mr. and Mrs. Roney and Mr. and Mrs. Roney getting down!

Not sure where these characters fit into the picture...

And now my favorite pictures from their honeymoon, stolen from Brittany's facebook album.
Creature from the Black Lagoon????
You must admit there is an uncanny similarity between these 2 pictures. He's getting closer...
Run, Brittany, run!!!
Sorry, I really do love this picture of you, Brittany. And you are not running away from him, soooo guess he isn't all that scarey.

I haven't even added my own pictures from the wedding. They are still on my camera and actually I took mostly videos, but I will add a video and some more pics soon. Stay tuned!

Cows! Cows! Cows!

One Sunday afternoon after a drive to the Middle Creek Lake Mom, Dad, Chanda, and I stopped by Chris Landis's farm to check out his herd of cows. He is working hard and since graduating from college has bought over 50 cows to milk. He also has some heifers in a meadow. Most of his cows are Holstein's but he has a variety of other kinds too. When we were there his girlfriend, who is from Maryland, was there for the weekend. She helps him but he does most of the work milking the cows twice a day himself the rest of the week, as well as raising some other crops, such as tobacco.

Corrie giving some attention to their favorite cow.

Some of the cows are smaller than the big Holsteins and can sit down in their stalls.

Chris has several different breeds of cows. The Holsteins are the big black and white ones. This is a

This baby calf was sick the week before but was doing better when we were there. It is the only calf he has at this time.

I was just fascinated watching these cows eat. They have such big tongues and like to reach to the feed of the cows next to them.

This cow has a mismatched look like she is already half and half. (like the creamer...)

I think this cow is always ready for Valentine's Day. She wears her heart on her face not her sleeve!

Corrie's favorite cow, the one with the most personality...and a pretty face!

Chris Landis the owner of this herd, Dad, Chanda, Mom and Chris's girlfriend, Corrie in front of the barn in Durlach.

Chris also has some nice big tobacco plants ready to be cut and hung in the tobacco shed or barn to dry.

We left here and headed to eat supper at a nearby restaurant near Lincoln, The Udder Choice, of course!

Keys for the City--The Pianos in Lancaster

This summer Lancaster City has over 20 pianos at various sites around the city. All are working pianos and anyone can sit down and play them.

This piano is at Steinman Park on King Street just a block from Penn Square. The girl who is playing in this video is named Glenda!!!

This piano is covered with an unknown number of pennies. In my opinion this is the best looking piano. If you click on it you can see a close up of it. Just use the back arrow at the upper left to return to the blog.

When Chanda and I drove around downtown, this was the first one we came to. It is in the Arts Park across from Auntie Anne's in the Old Post Office Building and this guy was playing it but we didn't see a parking place at the time so we didn't get out and listen.

Later we drove back by it and parked and got out of the car and took this picture with the giant keys in the foreground.

This is Binn's Park which was built at an old Armstrong office building, I believe.

And this is the location of the piano titled city streets. On this side you see Duke.

On the back are Queen and King and I think Prince must be on the other side.

This piano is sponsored by the organization Music For Everyone. Notice the back of it is dressed in a pale pink tutu!

On the square in the Gazebo in front of the Fulton Bank.

Sponsored by United Way, this one is in front of the Southern Market.

I took this picture of one of the weather vanes on the roof of the market.

This orange piano has music on it and is at the Fulton Opera House.

I really like this lime green Farmland Trust piano. If you click on it you can see a closeup and look at the farm photos on it. Just use the back arrow key to return to the blog.

A see-through yellow piano.

Seated at this piano located in Musser Park is a very nice nearby resident named Joni and her dog. Neither one of them played it. We talked about how much she enjoys living downtown since they moved there after her husband retired.

Finally, an up-date! It's about time!!

This past year I was teaching full time...that is my excuse. And this summer I was spending a lot of time fixing computers, cars, and my house. But I have returned...or as we like to say " I'm BACH...Galebach"
First stop other than for gas or motel--Memphis...you know the Pyramids and Ramses in Egypt. It looked like this place is closed.
The King welcomed me to the Visitor Center as you cross the Mississippi River.
I crossed Tennessee and drove up through Virginia and West Virginia and spent the night at Jessica's house in Maryland with my other sister, Chanda, while Jess and George were at Virginia Beach. Chanda went home and Jess and George came home and I stayed one more day to visit with them and use their hot tub--no pictures of that, just some of her flowers. My next few days were spent in Penryn at Chanda's house. She had lots of butterflies flitting about right outside her front window.
In our travels we drove by these sunflowers just south of Sporting Hill. They were also on the front page of the Lancaster Newspaper a day or two later. Not my pictures but they must have stood on the same spot.
Chanda and I visited her old home, back when she had so many kids she didn't know what to do. It is near York, just off of Route 30. We weren't able to get inside though; they must have changed the locks.
And of course when I went with Ilene to the Poconos for a few days we saw some nice looking deer. One evening we saw 34.
The day we stopped at the old lady's shoe house we also came back through Wrightsville along the old route 30 and I stopped and took a few pictures of the bridge. The new Rte. 30 bridge, which goes from Columbia to Wrightsville across the Susquehanna River, York to Lancaster Counties, can barely be seen under the arches and the little islands of green behind this bridge are from a previous bridge, maybe the one burnt during the Civil War (?).

Stay tuned. More to come, later. The Pianos of Lancaster. Which will be before this if you are looking at this after I do that blog. Also Chincoteague is another coming attraction, although it is really an annual affair.
